When umpires were monitored, they showed less bias in how they called strikes along ethnic lines, even over-compensating in the opposite direction of their original bias. Research by Finance Professor Johan Sulaeman of SMU Cox and co-authors, “Strike Three: Discrimination, Incentives, and Evaluation,” is forthcoming in The American Economic Review.
